Implementation Engineer Jobs

Implementation / Delivery Engineers own post-sales deployment: getting the product live and integrated in customer environments. It is the standard post-sales engineering function at enterprise platforms, vertical SaaS, and any vendor whose product needs configuring against a customer's systems before it earns its renewal. The listings below are scored for implementation complexity and travel, because those two vary more across this title than any other.

What an Implementation / Delivery Engineer actually does

An Implementation Engineer takes a signed customer and makes the product actually work in their environment. That means configuration, data migration, integration with whatever is already running, and the long tail of things that only surface once real data hits the system.

The role is post-sales by definition, which shapes everything about it: success is a customer live and using the product, not a deal closed. It is the title most likely to carry an ongoing relationship after go-live, and the one where delivery discipline matters as much as engineering depth.

Delivery Engineer, Onboarding Engineer, and Deployment Engineer usually describe the same work, and are treated as the same role here.

Day to day

  • Configuring and deploying the product into a customer's environment
  • Migrating data in, and reconciling what does not map cleanly
  • Building integrations with the customer's existing systems
  • Running go-live, then handling what the first weeks of real use expose
  • Training the customer's team and handing over to support

What hiring teams screen for

  • SQL and data migration
  • API integration
  • Python or another scripting language
  • Debugging in systems you did not build
  • Project and stakeholder management
  • Clear written communication with non-engineers

Common questions

Is Implementation Engineering a technical role?
Yes, though the balance against project management varies a lot by employer. Postings here are scored for both coding intensity and implementation complexity, so you can find the end of the spectrum you want.
How does it differ from an FDE role?
An Implementation Engineer deploys a product that exists; an FDE more often builds something new on top of a platform for a specific customer. The line blurs at companies whose product is genuinely a platform.
Does it lead anywhere?
Common moves are into solutions architecture, forward deployed engineering, or product — all three benefit from having seen what actually breaks in customer environments.
